Rechargeable battery - I want this to be portable so I can fix both their TVs. IR Led setup so I can remote control the system from my comp. So, uphill battle there.Ĭamera - I think the 2nd gen Pi cam, but not sure on this yet either It's used, smaller than the one they have and their current one doesn't have any problems other than they hit the wrong buttons. Update: Just got word that a friend of theirs gave them a TV, so they don't want a new one. Purchased by the frustrated children of parents that didn't grow up with the stuff.

It would raise the price, but I bet it would be the hottest selling TV of all time. Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't a TV made that has features to fix remotely, too. Seriously maybe take a step back and re-evaluate the Harmony's position in all of this is it actually helping or being a nuisance? Because you did mention a simple thing like AV channel choice is so difficult it must mean the harmony remote is still too complex for the end user. I mean seriously unless there's a remote TV assistance system out there i'm not familiar with its best to just go back to the basics and setup a TV for what it does best being a TV. Is it possible that maybe because you're trying to digitalise/centralise the remotes you've actually made it more complicated to control the TV *(Rather than making it easier using a dedicated remotes). What solutions have you all come up with?ĪLso side note/my 2-cents I am aware you've mentioned that you're using a Harmony system. Is there a way to remote control a Harmony system if I'm not on the same Wifi?

Also, to show my dad a YouTube video or an old movie I found that's on a streaming service.Īre there any TVs out there that allow for a remote connection? I would love to be able to log into a TV or a system to fix things like this.

They sometimes go a week not able to watch TV because they hit a button and changed an input or some other simple thing. *(Those senior friendly remotes are great, but because some are physically smaller than the normal smart TV remote I'd plan on tie/sticking some kinda lanyard on it so it's easier to find in a sofa) The TV is not the issue its the interaction interface the remote. Sometimes you need to step backwards before going forwards. You're trying to make troubleshooting easier but u also have to make interfacing/interaction for them more easier/safer/robust. And if you wanna add YouTube/etc, use a pc/RPi that you can TeamViewer into to control and control/show them *( or something that can be voice controlled Alexa/Google). If possible, don't use the smart tv functions and find a way to tape the remotes side by side (TV and cable/satellite box). There's quite a few out there for seniors.

The suggestion of using a simple signage pc is also good but I think more Raspberry Pi Vs complex PC. And then replace the complex remote with a simple one designed for disabled/seniors. If you mean troubleshooting the TV, I think the best suggestion is go back to a basic TV instead of a smart one.
